SOFEC's invention of a Flowline Termination Buoy (FTB)™ allows the use of mid-water flowlines suspended between a moored production or storage vessel to the single point mooring located a safe distance away. By employing the FMC SOFEC FTB the support for the mid-water flowline is located below the wave energy zone and is completely decoupled from the wave frequency motions of the conventional CALM buoy floating at the surface. The risk of fatigue damage to the flowline(s) during their service life is lowered by several orders of magnitude. SOFEC has applied for patent protection of the FTB technology.
