CAMPSA SALM

SOFEC designed, constructed, and installed a SALM terminal to import heavy fuel oil for distribution in Northwest Spain.

SOFEC determined all environmental forces and performed all structural and mechanical design. SOFEC also designed the seafloor foundation which is a towable, controlled ballast-type mooring base that is supported on short spud piles and anchored via 1,000 tons of crushed and graded granite ballast material.

The CAMPSA SALM is a dual product import terminal used to supply the Barcelona power plant with heavy fuel as well as diesel oil. Due to the particular seabed conditions of the area, the base is nearly 15.2m square with flotation tanks on two sides and enclosed bottom and sides. The base is a combination gravity and short spud pile type. The SALM is equipped with a dual conduit fluid swivel to allow the fuel oil to be continuously circulated and heated when no tanker is moored.
